01 What happened

At a Microsoft event in San Francisco, NVIDIA and Microsoft outlined joint work on hardware and software for AI agents running on Windows PCs. RTX Spark laptops are open for preorder, and compact desktops go on sale in November.

02 Key details

  • Microsoft announced general availability of Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC), operating system-level infrastructure that lets AI agents run safely and persistently in the background under OS control.
  • RTX Spark pairs an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU with up to 6,144 cores and a Grace CPU with up to 20 cores, linked at 600 GB/s, with up to 128GB of unified memory. NVIDIA rates its FP4 AI performance at up to one petaflop.
  • NVIDIA says RTX Spark can run models such as Qwen 3.8 Flash Next locally, unmetered and without sending data to the cloud. These are company claims, not independently verified results.
  • NVIDIA DGX Station for Windows is only previewed, with 748GB of coherent memory and up to 20 petaFLOPS of FP4 AI compute. No availability date is given; users can sign up to be notified.

03 Why it matters

For laptop buyers and IT teams, the question is whether local AI and always-on agents on Windows become practical without cloud services. The performance and capability figures so far come from NVIDIA and Microsoft, and the source material includes no independent testing.
