01 What happened
GitHub Copilot's usage metrics now report the configured names of custom skills, agents, MCP servers, slash commands, and plugins, replacing the previous “other” or “custom” categories in enterprise and organization reports. Each totals_by_* list now supports up to 25 named entries, up from five. Names are collected from Copilot CLI, the Copilot app, ACP integrations, and the Copilot SDK, but not from built-in IDE chat telemetry.
02 Key details
- Copilot usage metrics now show the configured names of custom skills, agents, MCP servers, slash commands, and plugins instead of grouping them under “other” or “custom” in enterprise and organization reports.
- Each totals_by_* list now includes up to 25 named entries per record (previously five), with remaining activity combined into a trailing “other” entry.
- Names are reported from Copilot CLI (v1.0.97+), the GitHub Copilot app, ACP integrations, and the Copilot SDK (v1.0.21+), but not from an IDE’s built-in chat telemetry.
- The metrics come from client telemetry and can undercount activity; they are intended for trend analysis and adoption tracking, not exact accounting.
03 Why it matters
Administrators can now identify which internal skills, custom agents, and MCP servers are actually used across their organization, track adoption after rollout, and focus enablement efforts — though the metrics are telemetry-based and may undercount activity.
04 Who it matters to
Enterprise administrators, organization owners and billing managers.
