01 What happened
Copilot Fusion became available on October 28, 2026, allowing developers to choose effort levels while the system automatically routes and orchestrates models for each task.
02 Key details
- Copilot Fusion combines Project HydraFusion’s multi-model orchestration with Copilot’s auto model selection, balancing performance and cost efficiency.
- In the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, Fusion Max scored 60, within two points of Claude Code with Opus 5.5 Max, at about half the average API cost per task, using about half as many tokens, and taking about 40% less time per task.
- Three effort levels are available: Standard (everyday tasks), High (challenging tasks), and Max (most demanding tasks). Workflows include Single, Cascade, and Critique.
- Administrators can control which models Copilot Fusion uses and set it as the default. Billing is done at standard model rates with a 30% temporary discount for paid plans.
03 Why it matters
Developers no longer need to manually switch models; Copilot Fusion automatically selects the optimal model or workflow for each coding task, improving efficiency and reducing costs.
