01 What happened
Anthropic says Claude Haiku 5.5 is now available on all platforms, including AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. The company positions the model for tasks where speed and processing costs matter.
02 Key details
- Per million tokens, Haiku 5.5 costs $0.10 for input and $0.50 for output on prompts up to and including 100,000 tokens; above that threshold, the rates are $0.50 and $2.50, respectively.
- Anthropic says Haiku 5.5 is priced 90% below Haiku 4.5 for requests up to 100,000 tokens and 50% below it for larger requests. The company says its comparison accounts for changes in token use.
- Haiku 5.5 is the first Haiku-class model with adjustable effort, letting users optimize for cost or intelligence. Its cybersecurity safeguards allow more defensive tasks than Sonnet 5.5’s, but still block penetration testing and other techniques Anthropic considers more likely to be used by attackers.
- Anthropic cut Sonnet 5.5 cache-read pricing from $0.20 to $0.10 per million tokens. It said monthly API credits would roll out this week to Max and Team subscribers: $100 for Max 5x, $200 for Max 20x, and up to $500 pooled across Team users.
03 Why it matters
The pricing and adjustable effort setting give developers a choice between cost and the model’s capabilities. The announced API credits are for Max and Team subscribers, not all users.
04 Who it matters to
AI developers, organizations with frequent repeatable requests and information security specialists.
